Welcome! My name is Nikki. Like many of you, I grew up not knowing what career path I wanted to follow when I had graduated from high school. After several different jobs over the past few years that offered me a wide range of experiences I still was not certain what occupation suited me.
One thing I knew for sure was that I wanted a career that complimented my skills, abilities and interests. I enjoy working with people, I embrace new technologies very easily and I like to see the results of my efforts at the end of the day.
But how could I combine all of this into a career that would satisfy me for many years to come, provide me with a stable income and offer me continuous opportunities for advancement?
Then one afternoon I saw a commercial that talked about skills, jobs and futures. Three words that definitely appealed to me. The BMW was also something that caught my eye! I was unaware that a majority of these careers even existed, or that so many women were now pursuing careers in these fields!
I am now exploring different apprenticeship opportunities and rediscovering myself in the process.
Join me throughout the Skills Work website and discover the number of rewarding careers in the skilled trades and technologies. And remember, SKILLS WORK!
Hi there! My name is Tyrone. I am a Grade 10 student, and as part of a Career Studies course that I have been taking in high school we have been doing some exploration of potential career opportunities that we could pursue after graduation.
A number of my friends have been thinking about going to university after high school. But, for myself that isn't the direction I want to take. Through various self-exploration exercises I have discovered that I like working with my hands, and generally learn better by doing something. In my spare time I enjoy taking things apart around the house, even if it isnt broken.
Last week, we had a visitor come to our class and talk to us about careers in the skilled trades and technologies. They told us about trends in job market, and why there was going to be such a demand for skilled workers in the future. They even talked about how much cash I could make in these jobs, and money is something I like to talk about.
After the presentation, the visitor provided us with a list of websites to check out, which included www.skillswork.com. What a great source of information! It really helped me decide that this is the type of opportunity that I am going to pursue.
I have an appointment next week with my guidance counsellor to talk about the Ontario Youth Apprenticeship Program (OYAP) and how I could start training for my career before I even graduate from high school.
Hey man, go through this website with an open mind and you too will discover how SKILLS WORK!
